For accessing and managing relational data base, SQL is used. SQL is approved by ANSI and is the standard language to work on the relational database management systems. SQL statements are used for performing tasks like querying, data manipulation, inserting data, updating data and deleting data. SQL can be used for total administration of the data base, setting up tables and defining the access rights of various users. Top relational database management systems that use SQL are Microsoft, Oracle, Access, Sybase and Ingres. Data definition language (DDL) and data manipulation language (DML) are the two elements of SQL. The task of defining the data structure is performed by DDL and DML is used for retrieving, inserting, updating and deleting data. Both DDL and DML operate within the same language structure and syntax.
