This is the most economical and popular type of display system. Here a cold cathode numerical indicator tube is used which displays digit in the form of an orange glow. Nixie tubes, digitron, numicator, nodistron etc. are examples of numerical indicator tubes. It consists of ten nickel cathodes mounted inside an anode. Anode is a fine wire mesh. While in operation, a small amount of material will be sputtered from the cathode on to any adjacent surfaces. Anode is suitably placed in Faraday dark space. Gas pressure is kept at optimum value to render a clear edge to each digit.
