Computers

Computer is a machine which is used for computation. Here first step is accepting input data, second step is performing computation and final step is displaying result. There are three varieties of computers on the basis of input type. They are analog computers, digital computers and hybrid computers. Analog computers accept analog signals. Speedometer, thermometer, barometer, ammeter, voltmeter etc. are the main examples of analog computers. Digital computers accept digital signals as input. Computers installed in offices, malls, hotels etc. are digital computers. A hybrid computer accepts both types of inputs. Computers placed in an intensive care unit of a hospital are a classic example of hybrid computer. They accept heartbeats of the patient (analog signals) as input. They can also accept instructions of the medical practitioner (digital signals). Some other examples of hybrid computers are the computers place in atomic reactors and mines. In an atomic reactor, inputs to computer are radioactivity level and scientist’s instructions. In the mines, inputs to computer are carbon monoxide level and worker’s instructions.
