Some terms of importance in embedded systems

Java API: Java TV Application Programming Interface (API) is an extension of the most famous Java platform. API provides access to audio video streaming, conditional access, access to in-band and out of band data channels, tuner control for abrupt change of channels, service information data accessing, on-screen graphics control, application lifecycle control and media synchronization.

DVB: Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) introduces components for system software. It also gives suggestions for hardware.

MHP: Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) modifies DVB so as to access all the services rendered by satellite, cable, terrestrial and microwave systems.

DAVIC: Digital Audio Visual Council (DAVIC) is related to multimedia communication.

ATSC: Advanced TeleVision Standards Committee (ATSC) is also referred as Digital tv Applications Software Environment (DASE) which defines a system software layer which allows a common platform for executing program and its applications.

ATVEF: Advanced TeleVision Enhancement Forum (ATVEF) supports HTML based television content.

OCAP: Open Cable Application Form (OCAP) which is built on the DVB MHP specification provides an interface enabling application portability through a system software layer.

OSGI: Open services Gateway Initiative (OSGI) supports all personal residential networking standards like Bluetooth.
