In digital electronics, codes are very important tool of conveying instructions. There exist many variety of codes of which ASCII has importance since it is the most extensively used one. Expansion of ASCII is American Standard Code for Information Interchange. ASCII is a 7-bit code. ASCII can represent 128 different characters. ASCII can represent 0 to 9 decimal numbers, upper case and lower case English alphabets, arithmetic operations and special codes for controlling computer peripheral devices. 7-bit code is spited into 2 sub groups one carrying 3 bits and the other one 4 bits. Control function ‘NUL’ stands for ‘NULL’, ‘SOH’ stands for ‘START OF HEADING’, ‘STX’ stands for ‘START OF TEXT’, ‘EOT’ stands for ‘END OF TRANSMISSION’, ‘ENQ’ stands for ‘ENQUIRY’, ‘ACK’ stands for ‘ACKNOWLEDGEMENT’ and ‘BELL’ stands for ‘BELL’.
